About the Role
Are you an experienced Special Risks Design Engineer looking for your next opportunity?
Technical Resources is partnering with a specialist provider of high-security and special risks systems to hire a Special Risks Design Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for producing detailed technical designs for complex, high-value security installations, ensuring solutions meet both client specifications and relevant industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
- System Design: Produce detailed schematics, drawings, and design documentation for special risks security systems including intruder detection, access control, and perimeter protection.
- Technical Proposals: Develop accurate bills of materials, specifications, and design packages in support of tender and pre-sales activity.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with project managers, site engineers, and clients to ensure designs are practical, compliant, and delivered on time.
- Technical Oversight & Reporting: Maintain accurate design records, produce handover documentation, and support engineers through the installation and commissioning phases.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to relevant standards including BS EN 50131, NSI/SSAIB codes of practice, and applicable health and safety regulations.
Experience & Qualifications Required
Essential:
- Experience: Minimum 3 years as a Special Risks Design Engineer or in a comparable technical design role within the physical security industry.
- Technical Skills: Hands-on design experience with high-security intruder detection, access control, and CCTV systems; proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent design software.
- Project/Operational Scope: Demonstrable track record of designing systems for high-value, complex, or sensitive site environments such as financial institutions, government facilities, or critical infrastructure.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, client-facing communication, and the ability to translate technical requirements into clear, deliverable designs.
- Mobility & Eligibility: Right to Work in the UK at the time of application.
Desirable:
- Certifications: NSI Gold accreditation awareness, CSCS card, or equivalent security industry qualifications; SIA licensing advantageous.
- Sector Background: Prior experience working on high-security or special risks contracts for blue-chip commercial, government, or critical national infrastructure clients.
