About the Role

Are you an experienced SCO1&2 Permit Holder looking for your next opportunity?

Technical Resources is partnering with a leading infrastructure services provider operating across the UK's high-voltage transmission and distribution network to hire a SCO1&2 Permit Holder. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe issue and control of permits to work on energised and de-energised electrical assets, ensuring all switching operations and isolations are carried out in full compliance with the relevant Safety Rules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Permit to Work Control: Issue, accept, and clear SCO1 and SCO2 permits to work in accordance with the host network operator's Safety Rules, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Switching & Isolation: Authorise and oversee HV/LV switching operations, confirming correct isolation and earthing procedures are in place before works commence.
  • Stakeholder & Site Coordination: Liaise with site engineers, subcontractors, and client representatives to coordinate safe access to electrical systems and manage live/dead boundaries.
  • Technical Oversight & Reporting: Maintain accurate switching schedules, permit logs, and handover documentation; provide clear end-of-shift reports to relevant project and safety managers.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, the relevant DNO/TO Safety Rules, and site-specific health and safety requirements.

Experience & Qualifications Required

Essential:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years working within the energy, utilities, or power distribution sector, with a proven track record as an SCO1&2 Permit Holder.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrable competency in HV/LV switching, isolation, and earthing procedures across transmission and/or distribution networks; familiarity with DNO and/or Transmission Owner Safety Rules.
  • Project/Operational Scope: Experience working across multi-site or framework contracts within critical national infrastructure, substations, or distribution networks.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication and decision-making skills under pressure; ability to brief and manage on-site teams around permit conditions and safety boundaries.
  • Mobility & Eligibility: Full UK driving licence; Right to Work in the UK; willingness to travel to various sites nationwide.

Desirable:

  • Certifications: Authorised Person (AP) qualification; City & Guilds or equivalent HV/LV competency certification; CSCS/ECS card; EUSR Network Construction Operations card.
  • Sector Background: Prior experience on National Grid, SSE, Scottish Power, or similar DNO/TO frameworks; familiarity with NEC or IChemE contract environments.
