Operations & Technical Manager – Fire & Security

Location: Northampton
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000
Job Type: Permanent

About the Role

Are you an experienced Operations & Technical Manager looking for your next opportunity?

Technical Resources is partnering with a well-established fire and security systems provider to hire an Operations & Technical Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational and technical functions of the business, bridging the gap between field engineering teams and senior leadership to ensure consistent service delivery and continued business growth.

This is an ideal opportunity to join an established organisation with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality fire and security solutions across UK projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scheduling & Workforce Planning: Plan, coordinate, and manage engineer workloads across emergency call-outs, routine maintenance, installations, and additional works — ensuring engineers are properly resourced and prepared for every assignment.
  • Engineer Line Management: Act as direct line manager for field engineering staff, providing leadership, guidance, and performance management, while conducting regular quality audits to uphold company and industry standards.
  • Technical Support & Compliance: Provide technical guidance to engineers, office staff, and customers; assist with NSI inspections; and ensure all installation and service work meets relevant industry regulations and internal procedures.
  • Project & Installation Oversight: Support the planning and coordination of larger installations, providing hands-on engineering assistance during periods of high demand or staff absence to maintain operational continuity.
  • Customer Relations & Business Development: Build and maintain strong customer relationships, support sales enquiries alongside the surveyor, and identify opportunities for additional services — with a view to taking on greater commercial responsibility as part of the company's succession planning.

Experience & Qualifications Required

Essential:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years working within the fire and security industry, with a track record in both a technical and supervisory or operational capacity.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with fire alarm and/or intruder alarm systems, CCTV, and access control — familiarity with panels and platforms such as Advanced, Kentec, Texecom, Honeywell, or equivalent.
  • Operational Scope: Demonstrable experience managing engineer scheduling, reactive call-outs, and planned maintenance programmes within a service-led environment.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills; able to manage competing priorities and engage confidently with customers and directors alike.
  • Mobility & Eligibility: Right to Work in the UK at the time of application.

Desirable:

  • Certifications: FIA, GENT, NSI-recognised qualifications, or CSCS/ECS card; Health & Safety awareness training.
  • Sector Background: Prior experience working within an NSI or SSAIB-accredited organisation, with familiarity of the audit and compliance processes those frameworks require.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Base Salary: £40,000 – £50,000
  • Benefits Package: Company pension scheme, vehicle or travel allowance, and a supportive working environment with direct access to senior leadership.
  • A clearly defined pathway for increased commercial and operational responsibility as part of the company's long-term succession planning.

To apply for this Operations & Technical Manager position, please submit an up-to-date CV.

Note: Applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK at the time of application.
