Fire Sprinkler Design Engineer
Job Summary
Responsible for delivering fire sprinkler system designs with minimal supervision, ensuring projects are completed on time and in line with technical standards. Working closely with project teams, clients and installation teams, the role also includes mentoring junior designers and supporting the wider design department.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design automatic sprinkler systems including wet, dry, pre-action, deluge systems, fire pumps and tanks.
  • Produce hydraulic calculations using Canute (FHC) and manual calculation methods.
  • Apply relevant fire sprinkler standards including LPCB, NFPA, FM, BS 9990 and BS 9251.
  • Coordinate sprinkler designs with building structures and other services.
  • Produce 2D drawings for approval, construction and as-built purposes in line with company BIM standards.
  • Attend client design meetings, site surveys and coordination meetings.
  • Support installation teams with design queries and technical issues.
  • Prepare RFIs and project documentation.
  • Manage own workload and support the development of junior designers.
  • Mentor trainee designers on a day-to-day basis.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum 20 years’ experience within the fire suppression industry preferred.
  • Strong experience in fire sprinkler system design and hydraulic calculations.
  • Experience attending client meetings, carrying out site surveys and supporting installation teams.
  • LPCB qualifications preferred:
    • LPCB Basic
    • LPCB Intermediate
    • LPCB Fire Hydraulics Certificate (FHC)
Technical Skills
  • Ideal strong knowledge of:
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit
    • Canute (FHC)
    • Microsoft Office
Personal Skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Confident working with clients, project teams and site personnel.
  • Able to mentor and support junior team members.
Location & Working Arrangements
Office-based with hybrid working considered. Attendance at client sites for meetings, surveys and project support will be required.
