About the Role
Are you an experienced Fire Alarm Design Engineer looking for your next opportunity?
Technical Resources is partnering with a leading provider of fire detection and life safety systems to hire a Fire Alarm Design Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for producing detailed fire alarm designs across a range of commercial and residential projects, ensuring all designs meet current standards and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities
- Fire Alarm System Design: Produce detailed schematics, cause and effect matrices, and design drawings for new-build and refurbishment projects in line with BS 5839 and EN 54.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare design packages including cable schedules, equipment schedules, riser diagrams, and zone drawings to a high standard.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with project managers, M&E consultants, architects, and site engineers to ensure designs are coordinated and buildable.
- Technical Oversight & Reporting: Review and respond to technical queries, produce design risk assessments, and support the project team through to handover.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to BS 5839, EN 54, and relevant building regulations, maintaining full compliance throughout the design lifecycle.
Experience & Qualifications Required
Essential:
- Experience: Minimum 3 years as a Fire Alarm Design Engineer within the fire and life safety industry.
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with fire alarm design software and working knowledge of addressable systems from manufacturers such as Advanced, Gent, Hochiki, or Notifier.
- Project/Operational Scope: Proven track record delivering designs across commercial, residential, or mixed-use projects of varying complexity.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple design packages simultaneously, and clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mobility & Eligibility: Right to Work in the UK at the time of application.
Desirable:
- Certifications: FIA Design qualification, BAFE SP203 awareness, or equivalent industry certification; CSCS card advantageous.
- Sector Background: Prior experience working on healthcare, education, or critical infrastructure projects; familiarity with third-party accreditation schemes.
