About the Role

Are you an experienced Design Estimator looking for your next opportunity?

Technical Resources is partnering with a leading provider of integrated security and fire systems solutions to hire a Design Estimator. In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate technical designs and cost estimates within a pre-sales and proposals environment, playing a key part in winning new business and supporting the wider sales team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Estimation: Produce detailed technical designs and accurate cost estimates for security, fire, and building services solutions at the pre-sales stage.
• Proposals Development: Prepare and contribute to tender submissions, bid documentation, and client-facing proposals, ensuring technical accuracy and commercial competitiveness.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with sales, engineering, and project delivery teams to ensure proposed solutions are both technically viable and commercially sound.
• Technical Documentation & Reporting: Produce and maintain clear design documentation, material schedules, and cost breakdowns to support handover to project teams upon award.
• Quality & Compliance: Ensure all designs and estimates adhere to relevant industry standards including BS 5839, BS EN 50132, and applicable health and safety regulations.

Experience & Qualifications Required

Essential:

• Experience: Minimum 3 years working within the fire, security, or building services industry, either in a field engineering, design, or estimating capacity.
• Technical Skills: Solid understanding of security and/or fire systems — including CCTV, access control, intruder detection, and fire detection platforms — with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Project/Operational Scope: Demonstrable experience supporting pre-sales, proposals, or bid processes, or a strong field engineering background with a desire to move into design and estimation.
• Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, commercial awareness, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to both internal teams and clients.
• Mobility & Eligibility: Right to Work in the UK at the time of application.

Desirable:

• Certifications: FIA, BSIA, CSCS, ECS, or equivalent industry qualifications.
• Sector Background: Prior exposure to enterprise commercial, critical infrastructure, or multi-site contracts.
