Purpose of Role
The Security Solutions Design Engineer will shape and deliver Corporate Security Systems across the entire security estate, making critical design decisions that satisfy both local and global requirements. Working as a senior member of the Security Operations team, the post holder will ensure full alignment and approval from Security Operations, Projects, and IT stakeholders.
The role focuses on creating and maintaining Security Solutions Requirements documentation using established applications, models, templates, and frameworks. The position operates within the framework of Corporate Security and UK IT applications, including Security and Fire management applications, data analysis solutions, and digital communication technologies.

Key Accountabilities
- Security Strategy: Review and interpret key elements of the Corporate Security Strategy.
- Design Consistency: Ensure tendered security project designs align with Corporate Security Strategy and global model direction.
- Compliance: Ensure solutions adhere to corporate and global architecture standards, including BS 9999 and ISO 27000 series.
- Expert Input: Provide expert input on globally defined strategies, standards, and procedures for Security Applications.
- Business Alignment: Ensure security projects are fit for purpose and aligned with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed specifications from Risk Assessment Documents for downstream design teams.
- Develop and maintain Security Solutions Requirements documentation using corporate templates.
- Liaise with Security Operations, Projects, and IT teams to secure design approvals.
- Ensure designs meet local requirements and global architecture standards.
- Support tender processes ensuring security designs align with Corporate Security Strategy.
- Provide technical guidance on Security and Fire management applications and digital solutions.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven experience in security systems design or security solutions engineering within corporate or utility environments.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment processes and ability to translate assessments into technical specifications.
- Experience with Security Systems management applications, access control, CCTV, and intruder alarm systems.
- Knowledge of relevant standards including BS 9999, ISO 27000 series, and ISA/IEC 62443.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to produce senior management reports.
Desirable:
- Experience within the energy or utility sector.
- Familiarity with Gallagher Security Systems or similar access control platforms.
- Understanding of OT/IT convergence and cyber security principles in critical infrastructure.
- Degree-educated in Engineering, Security Management, or related discipline.
