Job Title: Operations Manager (Fire & Security)
Location: Exeter
Salary: From £60,000 To £70,000 per annum + benefits
Are you an experienced Operations Manager within the fire alarm or life safety industry looking to take full ownership of a growing division? As an Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring all projects and maintenance activities are delivered efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with industry standards. You will be working for a well-established, accredited business delivering fire and life safety solutions across multiple sectors.
Responsibilities:
● Oversee operational activities across the maintenance division, ensuring efficiency and compliance
● Lead and manage Maintenance Engineering Managers and field-based engineers
● Oversee estimating and commercial functions, ensuring accurate and competitive pricing
● Ensure compliance with British Standards (e.g. BS 5839), NSI Fire Gold and BAFE requirements
● Manage resource planning, scheduling, and workload distribution
● Monitor KPIs, budgets, and overall business performance
● Maintain strong client relationships and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
● Ensure adherence to health & safety procedures across all operations
● Support recruitment, training, and development of engineering teams
● Carry out and oversee on-site audits to maintain quality and compliance
● Assist with external audits, ensuring the business remains audit-ready
Experience and Certifications required:
● Proven experience in an Operations Manager or senior leadership role within the fire alarm or life safety industry
● Strong hands-on experience with fire alarm systems (installation, service, or maintenance)
● Comprehensive knowledge of British Standards (e.g. BS 5839) and industry regulations
● Experience overseeing both engineering operations and estimating/commercial functions
● Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance service delivery and profitability
● Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
● FIA Qualifications or FIA Modules (Maintenance, Installation, or Design)
● Full UK driving licence
