Are you looking for a Smoke Ventilation Technical Manager position working in the West Midlands? As a Smoke Ventilation Technical Manager, you will take ownership of the technical strategy for smoke control and natural ventilation systems, ensuring all solutions meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, and engineering quality. You will be working for an established specialist in smoke control and natural ventilation, providing end-to-end solutions from concept design through installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.
Responsibilities :
● Lead the technical design, specification, and compliance review of smoke control and natural ventilation systems.
● Act as the subject-matter expert on BS EN 12101 series, UK Building Regulations, and life-safety system standards.
● Resolve complex design, integration, and installation challenges across multiple concurrent projects.
● Provide technical input during tendering, bid development, pre-sales engagement, and project kick-off.
● Review, approve, and sign off system drawings, schematics, control philosophies, and cause-and-effect documentation.
● Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure system compatibility and successful delivery.
● Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and update internal technical processes accordingly.
● Mentor and support project managers, design engineers, and wider technical staff.
● Lead technical training and CPD initiatives across smoke control, fire safety, and building services topics.
● Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, design methodology, and adoption of new tools and technology.
Experience and Certifications Required:
● Extensive experience within smoke control, fire safety, HVAC, or building services engineering on complex projects.
● Strong working knowledge of BS EN 12101 series, UK Building Regulations, and associated guidance.
● Proficiency in control panel design, electrical schematics, and system integration for life-safety systems.
● Skilled user of AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design and coordination software.
● Proven leadership ability with experience developing and supporting technical teams.
● Demonstrable ability to manage multiple complex projects while maintaining technical excellence.
● Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
● Membership (or working towards membership) of IET, CIBSE, or similar professional body preferred.
● Evidence of ongoing CPD within smoke control, fire safety, or building services engineering.
