Role: Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Berkshire & London

Salary: £64,000 - £70,000 per annum + Car Allowance + Bonus

Technical Resources are recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a team covering Berkshire and London. This is a hybrid role split between the office, home, and site work. As a proactive member of the Commercial Team, you will lead and support contract administration duties, ensuring accurate and timely commercial and contract management across multiple projects. The role will be pivotal in identifying, recording, and managing contractual risks and opportunities, supporting the sustainable, profitable growth of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and oversee the commercial function within the business
  • Provide guidance and advice to operational colleagues on commercial matters
  • Prepare and analyse project margin forecasts, revenue projections, and cost-to-complete assessments
  • Manage risk, value engineering, and cost control throughout the project lifecycle
  • Identify, analyse, and manage responses to commercial risks
  • Maintain awareness of various building contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC), tracking key dates and clauses, and promoting best practice
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all commercial activities
  • Record and maintain all necessary documentation related to risk, opportunity, and contract management (including NDAs, change management, etc.)
  • Manage the application for payment process, resolving client queries efficiently
  • Liaise with the finance team to ensure timely invoicing and payment receipt
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement to minimise risk and maximise opportunity
  • Oversee subcontractor management, including contract creation, applications, payments, change management, risk analysis, regular meetings, and final accounting
  • Assist in the development and implementation of commercial policies and procedures, and establish metrics for project performance
  • Monitor and report on project programmes, issuing contractual notices as required
  • Promote best commercial practices throughout the organisation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring regular commercial meetings throughout project lifecycles

Experience and Certifications Required:

  • Strong contract administration and formation skills with JCT and NEC contracts
  • Proficient in value and cost control, programme analysis, impact assessments, and delay/acceleration management
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, teamwork, and time management skills
  • Experience managing subordinates is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of the Construction Act and awareness of current construction law changes
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • Experience in data centres and/or M&E (mechanical & electrical) projects is highly desirable
  • Proven track record in a similar commercial or quantity surveying role
  • Ability to pass background checks as per site requirements
