Role: Quantity Surveyor
Location: North East
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum + Car
Technical Resources are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to join a dynamic team in the North East. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of projects, ensuring cost control, contract compliance, and commercial success. You will play a key role in managing project finances, liaising with stakeholders, and supporting the delivery of high-quality construction projects.
Responsibilities:
- Develop proficiency in quantity surveying skills and best practices
- Gain experience in construction methods and assess commercial/cost implications of technical and design information
- Understand and interpret project plans
- Prepare monthly progress valuations and submit timely, accurate variations
- Understand contractual obligations, rights, and remedies in the event of delays
- Liaise with the Project Manager on contractual issues affecting profitability
- Adhere to environmental and safety standards
- Compile, prepare, and sign off subcontract orders
- Ensure all contractual requirements for bonds, guarantees, and warranties from subcontractors are met
- Manage procurement of key subcontracts, focusing on risk transfer
- Monitor discrepancies between subcontractor applications and payments, providing advice to pre-empt adjudications
- Draft and advise on contractual notices for both main and subcontractors
- Develop knowledge of payment processes under main and subcontracts
- Maintain appropriate contract management records (engineers’ diaries, programme reports, as-built records, etc.)
- Process payments and notify subcontractors in line with the Construction Act
- Ensure timely collection of all contractual documentation from subcontractors
- Attend site visits and client meetings as required
Experience and Certifications Required:
- Proven working knowledge required
- Understanding of procurement practices and forms of main and subcontract
- Good understanding of cost/value processes and reporting
- HND/HNC/Degree in Quantity Surveying (desirable)
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Calm under pressure, able to deal with different personalities
- Hardworking and detail-oriented
