Role: Fire Detection Proposals Engineer

Location: Midlands

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum

Technical Resources are recruiting for a Fire Detection Proposals Engineer to join the electrical and fire detection team of a leading contractor in the Midlands. This office-based role will see you manage the complete proposals process, from site survey and costings through to project handover, working on a variety of commercial and industrial fire alarm systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage enquiries from initial stage through to project handover
  • Survey sites and prepare detailed estimates and cost sheets
  • Create comprehensive proposal documentation and letters
  • Track and follow up quotations to gain client feedback
  • Liaise with the Project Manager and Design Team to ensure a seamless transition
  • Monitor supplier and equipment costs
  • Attend client and internal meetings as required
  • Support continuous improvement within the proposals and estimation function

Experience and Certifications Required:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in fire detection and alarm systems
  • Strong knowledge of BS5839:2025, BS6266:2011, BS7273, BS8519:2020
  • Understanding of IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Familiarity with integration of mechanical fire protection and suppression systems
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word (MS Project or equivalent is a bonus)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Must be eligible for DBS clearance
  • Knowledge of end-user and construction contracts
  • Experience with gas suppression systems (inert/halocarbon)
  • Knowledge of Advanced, Kentec, Notifier panels and Apollo, Hochiki, Xtralis detection equipment
  • Understanding of ATEX/hazardous area regulations
  • Strong client and supplier relationship skills
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Team-focused but able to work independently
