Role: Fire Detection Proposals Engineer
Location: Midlands
Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 per annum
Technical Resources are recruiting for a Fire Detection Proposals Engineer with a strong background in commercial fire detection systems and standards. We need you to lead the estimation and proposal process for fire alarm installations, upgrades, and modifications. You’ll be working from the company’s head office, with occasional travel across the UK and potential meetings abroad.
Responsibilities:
- Manage enquiries from initial survey through to handover to project and design teams
- Prepare detailed cost sheets, proposals, and supporting documentation
- Follow up quotations and maintain communication with clients
- Monitor supplier and equipment pricing to ensure competitive proposals
- Collaborate with project and design teams to ensure smooth project delivery
- Attend site surveys, client meetings, and internal progress reviews
- Contribute to the efficient running of the department
Experience and Certifications Required:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in fire detection systems for commercial and industrial environments
- Excellent understanding of BS5839:2025, BS6266:2011, BS7273, BS8519:2020
- Knowledge of the IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Familiarity with interfaces for suppression systems and mechanical fire protection
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel (MS Project advantageous)
- Clean UK driving licence
- DBS clearance required
- Experience with Advanced, Kentec, Notifier panels, and detection from Apollo, Hochiki, Xtralis
- Knowledge of Gas Suppression Systems (Inert and Halocarbon)
- Understanding of ATEX / hazardous area regulations
- Familiarity with model forms of construction and end-user contracts
- Strong client, supplier, and contractor relationship-building
- Effective planning and organisation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within project teams
