We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead all design and engineering activities within the fire sector. This pivotal role involves managing internal and external design resources, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and delivery across major projects.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all engineering and design activities to ensure on-time, within-budget, and high-quality project delivery.
- Ensure full compliance with Design Management and Assurance Procedures and the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Conduct and manage design reviews for buildability, constructability, and technical compliance, identifying risks early.
- Foster communication across internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure project requirements are fully integrated.
- Prioritise health, safety, and compliance throughout the design and delivery stages.
- Apply value engineering principles to optimise cost, performance, and functionality.
- Oversee engineering schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Perform project inspections and audits to verify technical compliance and rectify any non-conformances.
- Maintain key project documentation — design registers, risk registers, communication logs, and meeting records.
- Act as Design Manager on smaller projects when required.
- Support commercial teams with design variations and change control.
- Align design delivery with installation and testing programmes.
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as needed.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence across the engineering team.
Experience and Certifications Required:
Fire Sector Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with BS EN ISO standards, Approved Document B, and FIA/LPCB/FIRAS specifications.

Oversee fire engineering design and delivery from concept to commissioning.

Liaise with Clients’ Fire Officers and local Fire Brigades to ensure project compliance and approval.

Act as the technical authority for fire-related engineering issues.
Skills and Experience

Strong background in managing fire system design and engineering deliverables across multiple projects.

Proven experience in sprinkler and fire detection system design, testing, and commissioning.

Skilled in budget, scope, and schedule management with good commercial awareness.

Proficient in 2D CAD (3D/BIM knowledge beneficial).

Experienced leading multi-disciplinary teams and client-facing engagements.
Qualifications

Recognised Engineering degree (Chartered status preferred).

Membership with IFE/CIBSE advantageous.

SMSTS/IOSH and CSCS Card required.

Fire-specific training such as LPCB/FIA/BAFSA design and commissioning certifications desirable.

Full UK driving licence essential.
